Hi, my name is Charlie...well it really is Charlie Chaplin. If you take a good look at my adorable face you will figure out why my owners gave me that name. I can assure you that I don't walk like him!
My story goes like this. I was born outside at the Airport carwash on Airport Road in Warwick, RI. A girl named Sandy came along and saw me there. She felt sorry for me and decided to rescue me. Sandy loves animals and couldn't bear to see me out in the cold. One day she and another friend set a trap with some very tempting food in it. Well the next thing I knew, I was in the trap and very confused and angry. Sandy put me in her car and off to the vet we went. By this time I am hissing and spitting. I'm just a little guy so I needed to do my best to try to scare her so she would let me go. No such luck! These animal lovers are really tough to get through to. The vet probed around stuck needles in me took blood out of my little body. Can you imagine anyone doing that to a little innocent creature like me?
Soon after that, I went home with Sandy and much to my surprise it wasn't all that bad. I met two other cats and once I showed them who was boss we got along fine.
After a few weeks I began to feel sick and I didn't want to eat. My new owner became very concerned so she took me back to the vet. Just what I needed, I can never figure these things out you feel rotten and just want to sleep in a warm corner and someone stuffs you in a cage and brings you back to the same guy who stuck you with needles! Go figure.
A few days later we received a call from the vet. Suddenly I noticed a very sad look on Sandy's face. It was then that she told me I had Leukemia. The vet recommended that I be put to sleep. Well there was no way this was going to happen. You see I picked my owner because I knew she would never be able to do that and she would try to get me well. There was a plan.
I was given my own room. I couldn't play with any of the other cats, but that was ok because Sandy would come in every day and spend time with me and put these special drops under my tongue that she got from a new homeopathic vet. I didn't like them very much, but she assured me that if I took them I would get better. Guess what!!! I am now four years old and feeling great. I am living with Sandy's mom and dad now and they take very good care of me. I have the run of the house and at the same time I am keeping an 85 year old couple YOUNG !!!
No one can do that better than Charlie Chaplin!
